Was wir erst vor 10 Jahren entdeckt haben, ist, dass sie genauso versierte Ingenieure waren.<\/p>\n<p>Im Herbst 1900 wurde ein mysteri\u00f6ses Instrument von der Gr\u00f6sse einer Schuhschachtel, bestehend aus \u00fcber 30 eng aneinander liegenden bronzenen Zahnr\u00e4dern, vor der K\u00fcste der griechischen Insel Antikythera gefunden. Erst 2006 gelang es einem Team von Astronomen, Historikern und Mathematikern herauszufinden, wof\u00fcr der Mechanismus gut war. Starke 3D-R\u00f6ntgeninstrumente und hochentwickelte, computergest\u00fctzte bildgebende Verfahren waren dazu n\u00f6tig.<\/p>\n<p>Man nimmt heute an, dass der <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mechanismus_von_Antikythera\" target=\"_blank\">Mechanismus von Antikythera<\/a> im 2. Jahrhundert vor Christus konstruiert wurde. Die bronzenen Getriebe folgten den Positionen von Mond, Sonne und gewissen Sternen. Der Mechanismus zeigte das Datum des \u00e4gyptischen Kalenders, die griechischen Sternzeichen, den metonischen und den kallippischen Zyklus an und konnte sogar Sonnenfinsternisse vorhersagen. Auch eine kleine (aus unserer Sicht) Spielerei findet sich: eine Anzeige der Olympischen Spiele (4-Jahres-Zyklus).<\/p>\n<p>Die neuen Erkenntnisse \u00fcber den Mechanismus von Antikythera wurden 2006 im Magazin Nature (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.antikythera-mechanism.gr\/system\/files\/0608_Nature.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">PDF, englischer Artikel<\/a>) ver\u00f6ffentlicht. 2008 erschien ein Folgeartikel im Nature (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.antikythera-mechanism.gr\/system\/files\/Antikythera_Nature2008_submitted.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">PDF, englisch<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Als Direktor des Mus\u00e9e International d\u2019Horlogerie (MIH) in La Chaux-de-Fonds erhielt Ludwig Oechslin bereits 2005 einen Einblick in die Arbeit der Forschenden, noch bevor diese im Nature ver\u00f6ffentlicht wurde.<\/p>\n<p>Aus Neugierde, wie der Mechanismus wohl funktioniert haben k\u00f6nnte, und weil gerade kein anderes Studienobjekt zur Hand war, konstruierte Ludwig Oechslin eine Interpretation des Mechanismus basierend auf den Erkenntnissen des Nature-Artikels. 2006 stellte Oechslin zwei Ausf\u00fchrungen der Antikythera fertig. Zu Schulungszwecken hat die eine hinten und vorne Plexiglasplatten und wird im Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds ausgestellt. Die zweite Ausf\u00fchrung, hier abgebildet (wie in diesem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochsundjunior.swiss\/de\/antikythera-0\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blogpost von 2009<\/a>), ist ganz aus Messing und steht in unseren Arbeitsr\u00e4umen in Luzern.<\/p>\n<p>Es gibt ein paar interessante Unterschiede zwischen Oechslins Ausf\u00fchrungen und dem griechischen Original:<\/p>\n<p>Zum einen hat Ludwig Oechslin, um den Mechanismus funktionaler zu machen, die Z\u00e4hne der Getriebe nicht als gleichseitige Dreiecke geschnitten, wie dies die griechischen Handwerker mit den damaligen Werkzeugen taten. Stattdessen fr\u00e4ste er sie in der Form\u00a0moderner Getriebez\u00e4hne. Ausserdem hat Oechslin der Antikythera einen Hauch mehr Eleganz verpasst. W\u00e4hrend das Original mit einer herausstehenden Handkurbel bedient wurde, bewahrte Oechslin die Symmetrie: Bei seiner Ausf\u00fchrung kann man stattdessen mit den Fingern von beiden Seiten her in das Getriebe fassen und so das gr\u00f6sste der Zahnr\u00e4der drehen. Oechslins Antikythera ist sowohl Kunst wie auch historische Interpretation. Beide Ausf\u00fchrungen wurden in seiner Werkst\u00e4tte in La Chaux-de-Fonds gefertigt.
